Chronicles the history of the Łódź ghetto, with numerous facsimiles of proclamations and regulations issued by the German authorities or by Rumkowski, and excerpts from the official ghetto chronicle. Describes transports to labor camps, and to the extermination camp at Chełmno; reproduces testimony of a member of the Chełmno Sonderkommando. Gives special attention to the postal service: ingoing and outgoing mail (both strictly controlled, and for long periods suspended altogether) and mail within the ghetto. Reproduces and analyzes variants of postcards, postal stamps, postmarks, censors' marks, etc. also reproduces "ghetto money". Includes lengthy summaries in Polish and English (pp. 189-253).
